Manganese Production

Production

More than 90% of produced Manganese in the world is used for iron and steel legation, therefore manganese ores directly used in steel allows production. For production of pure manganese metal for other purposes the electrolytic separation in water solution with presence of (NH4)2SO4 technique developed by R.I. Algadze (1939) is used. Less pure Manganese is produced by thermal substitution of Manganese by aluminium.

3Mn3O4 + 8Al -> 9Mn + 4Al2O
